Farm Bill Rewrite Contains Canned Vegetable Provision

The House Agriculture Committee is scheduled to mark up a draft of the 2018 Farm Bill this week which contains a change allowing “canned, dried, frozen or pureed” products in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.  The change has been sought by MWFPA in conjunction with the American Fruit and Vegetable Processors and Growers Coalition.

The committee released the bill last week, titled H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018. Observers say the bill could be brought to the House floor as early as next week. The Senate will likely release its version of the farm bill in May.
